Sioux Food and Water
The Sioux tribe heavily relied on the buffalo for food. For this reason, the Sioux had to move from place to place, following the herds of buffalo. This means that while the Wampanoag could use the lake or river they built their shelters next to, the Sioux were on a constant search for water.
To hunt the buffalo, the Sioux used bows and arrows just like the Wampanoags did to hunt deer. The only difference is that a buffalo is about ten times the size of a deer. This means that the Sioux bows had to be a great deal stronger than the Wampanoag's. They often used stone arrow tips and used bird feathers to "fletch" their arrows. This "fletching" process allowed the arrow to fly straight through the air. Below is an example of a bow, and the types of arrowheads similar to the ones they would have used to hunt. Why was the bow so much more effective than hunting with a spear? Why would it make sense for the Sioux and Wampanoag tribes to use stone arrowheads instead of wooden ones?
